Felony assault. Neil recently represented someone convicted of first-degree assault who had lost his appeal. Neil did extensive post-conviction investigation, hired a firearm/ballistics expert, and raised a series of issues including ineffective assistance of counsel. The prosecutor agreed to vacate the conviction and Neil’s client pled guilty to a lesser offense and was released from prison right before the pandemic struck.
Neil also represented a client who was charged with felony assault of a young man during a brawl at a tavern. Through good investigation, Neil proved the teen had been the aggressor and the case was dismissed.
